ITINERARY

DAY 1. Welcome to Mongolia
The departure depends on the international flight or train to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. After arrival in Ulaanbaatar, our tour guide will pick you up and drive you a short distance to the hotel, where you check in. In the afternoon, there is a small city tour. (Monastery Gandan, Museum Chinggis Khaan + Main Square)

DAY 2. Domestic flight to Uliastai, Mongolia
Following breakfast, you will board a domestic flight to Uliastai, the capital of Zavkhan Province, situated within the Khangai Mountain Range. The flight is approximately one hour and thirty minutes in duration. Upon arrival, our team will meet you, and after lunch, escort you on a brief tour of the city.

DAY 3. A lake nestled amidst sand dunes.
After breakfast, we will proceed by vehicle to one of the pristine lakes in Western Mongolia, Ulaagchiin Khar Nuur—commonly known as Black Lake—a remarkable natural wonder. Covering an area of approximately 40 square kilometers, the lake is encircled by enchanting sand dunes whose breathtaking beauty is sure to impress. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 40 meters. The itinerary includes hiking around the surrounding areas, swimming, and riding a traditional two-humped Mongolian Bactrian camel.

DAYS 4. And 5. Turquoise blue Lake Khyrgas.
Our journey continues to Lake Khyargas, which is a saltwater lake of 1400 square kilometers, 75 km long, 31 km wide, and has an area of 1481 km². The average depth is 50 m, and the deepest is 80 m. The lake is a magnet for migratory birds. The main attraction of the lake is the Khetsuu Khad rock on the eastern shore of the lake. With its turquoise blue color, it stands out from its desert-steppe surroundings and enchants us with its seemingly unreal panorama. In the late afternoon we arrive at our camp on the southeastern shore, which is beautifully situated in a secluded bay with a view of the bird cliff. We will enjoy the peace and quiet of our 2-day stay at Gercamp.

DAY 6. Western Mongolia, the home of eagle hunters.
Ulgii, the capital of western Mongolia, is renowned for its vibrant Kazakh culture and rich eagle hunting heritage. The city is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and expansive steppe landscapes. The Kazakh yurts are larger and more elaborately decorated than typical Mongolian yurts, often featuring colorful hangings and small curtains. Ulgii offers excellent opportunities for adventurers. The most famous attractions include the eagle hunting tradition, which spans thousands of years and remains a vital part of the local culture, and visitors can immerse themselves in this unique heritage through demonstrations and festivals, eagle festivals, where skilled hunters showcase their trained golden eagles' hunting prowess; the local museum dedicated to Kazakh history and traditions, traditional craft markets where you can see and purchase local handcrafts; and opportunities to try on traditional Kazakh costumes. Of course, the Kazakh cuisine is authentic and fantastic.

DAY 7. Altai Mountain Range: meet our very first host family.
Today, we are traveling towards Altai-5-Bogd (Five Kings Massif) to visit the Altai high mountain area and arrive at Shiveet Khairkhan mountain—the closest place to the Altai peaks reachable by car. From now on, we are travelling at the altitude of 2500-3000 m. Meet our local guest family to explore their life as well as rent horses for our further trip to the Mongolian high mountain range. In the evening, we will taste our very first famous Kazakh cuisine and enjoy the ethnic groups culture and their music.

DAY 8. Hiking to the National Park “Altai Tavan Bogd Peak” (4374M)
After a local breakfast, we will prepare our luggage for the upcoming two-day trekking or hiking expedition to the Altai Peaks. All our belongings will be transported by horses, and participants can choose to proceed either on foot or horseback, according to their preference, toward the mountains and glaciers. This promises to be an unforgettable experience. We will enjoy the scenic route along the Tsagaan Gol, the pristine white mountain river, culminating at our mountain base located at the foot of Mongolia’s highest mountains. Are you excited to tent in the wild, untouched nature?

DAY 9. Mountain Hike, 4050M.
The massif (five peaks with eternal snow), which we will hike to, is located in the Altai mountain range, and the highest mountain of the massif is called Huiten Mountain, 4374 meters high. The surrounding area is the highest and coldest region in Mongolia. It can even snow in midsummer. We climb up to the mountain, one of the 5 royal massifs, called Malchin Orgil Peak (4050 m), and we also experience Potanin Glacier. The view from the top is always worth the climb. In a day, we will get the peak and go back down to the basement location. In the evening there is a campfire and singing.

DAYS 10. And 11. Visiting the twin lakes Khoton and Khurgan.
The next morning, we take down our tent and hike or ride back to the host family. After lunch at the family's, our journey continues to the twin lakes Khoton and Khurgan. We spend 2 days full of experiences in the surroundings of the mountain landscapes. The lakes are mountain lakes surrounded by glacial moraines. Once we settle at the next family, the rest of the day is for relaxation. We have the opportunity to experience the culture of the Kazakh nomads at first hand. There is music, singing, eagle hunters, and, of course, local cuisine. Seeing the goats and yak herds grazing peacefully near the yurts is a special tranquillity. The next day, we take a short drive in an area and start our next day full of discoveries. This time we hike to the Baga Turgen waterfall, located in the Turgen Uul mountain range. It is 36 meters high and divided into two stages. The first part is 23 meters, and the second is 13 meters. The Turgen waterfall originates from the melting of glacial snow.

DAY 12. Back to Ulgii, Province Bayan Ulgii.
Unfortunately, we are leaving the beautiful postcard landscape. We make our way back to the town of Ulgii, the capital of Bayan-Ulgii. Overnight stay in a local hotel.

DAY 13. Take a flight back to Ulaanbaatar from Ulgii town.
We take a domestic flight to Ulaanbaatar. Afterwards we have time to explore the capital and go shopping, and in the evening we attend a folklore performance with traditional musical instruments (horsehead violin...), the famous throat singing, and snake girls showing their art. After enjoying the last dinner together, our adventure trip to western Mongolia is going to end.

DAY 14. Departure
Transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport or to the train station for your onward journey, marking the end of your visit to Mongolia.
